タイ，チュラロンコン大学のインターン学生の2か月の活動紹介

タイのチュラロンコン大学から毎年インターンシップの学生をメディア学部では受け入れています．今年は5月24日から7月23日の約2か月間（43日，330時間以上の研究活動）を私の研究室で過ごしました．7月18日に行った最終発表会の様子は次の記事で紹介されています．

Gust君（ニックネーム）は2か月間で
Deformation Method of a Body Form for 3D Character Design
というテーマの研究を進め，3ds MaxというCGソフトウエアのプラグインを作成し，キャラクターの体形をいろいろ制作する支援手法を提案しました．この内容は英語による論文として6ページ程度でまとめています．
この記事では，Gust君に書いてもらったインターンの活動報告を紹介します．
CU-TUT Internship 2018 Activity Report
In this report, I will describe about what we have done during internship period other than my main research.
- #1 23rd May 2018
In the day after we had arrived in Japan, which is the day before internship started. we went to university to meet our supervisors. We took some photos and have a little conversation about our research. Luckily, we have a senior who have been studied at TUT helps us in communicating in Japanese with the professors. After that, our senior guided us to explore the university, we also went to have lunch at university canteen together.

We went to meet the dean and have a short conversation with him.

Today, Prof. Kondo took me along with other internship students in the lab to visit the university’s MOCAP studio. This is my first time to see real MOCAP studio. I can see university students using it to do their project. We learned the process of making animation from recording moving posture using MOCAP studio and converting them to 3D model by computer. Then, Prof. Kondo let us having a chat with the students there for about 2 hours. The topics are about animation and different of Japan and Thailand.

During this week, we got visited by a former KMUTT students, ones work at branch of “Sunrise” company. They tell us many things about Japan such as transportation, job salary, difference of Japan compared to Thailand, and how to live in Japan. They let us to ask about problems we found in our research and they also gave us many useful advices since they are working and have experience in this field of work. Those advices make me see what tools are used in practical which help me very much.

On this day, there is welcoming party for us held by lab students under the suggestion from Prof. Kondo. The party took about 3 hours. we can talk with them more and get closer.

Today, there is a lecture at university by Mr. Matthew Steidl who has experience and working in computer graphic company. I also joined the lecture and I got to know many things about VFX.

CU and Thailand University presentation
Today, there is a special assignment for us which is to do a presentation about CU and Thailand university life for the students there.

Today, Prof. Kondo took us, intern students including CU, KMUTT, and TU students to the field trip at Sunrise branch office. Sunrise Inc. is one of Japan’s greatest and well-known animation company. They have produced many famous animations. I got many useful things from there.
Taking photo is prohibited in the office so the photo we have is only group photo and photo took outside the office.

Today is when we showed up our final presentation. I must make two things which are an A1 poster and presentation slides about my work. Other than viewer from TUT, we got students and teachers from Silpakorn University from Thailand to join.
Then, We have a small party which took about 1 hour.

Goodbye Party
This is the second party held by lab students for us. I can feel that we got closer and know each other more than the first party. They also gave us many snacks such as cake, and ice-cream which are very delicious.
■Comments about internship life and work at TUT
- Hachioji is a good place, it has almost everything we need, and price of food is cheap compared to other places in Japan. I can feel comfortable because there are not many tall buildings though it is in Tokyo, the capital city of Japan.
- To go to university, I have to take the university bus from Hachioji South Entrance station. In the morning, the buses will arrive every 2-3 minutes which make the transportation very convenient.
- TUT is located on the hill, the university area is wide with beautiful landscape scenery.
- Lab Professors are kind, they kindly welcome us. They often ask us if there is any problem with our internship life and research or not.
- The students there also friendly. Every time I has a problem about my work, I can ask them, and they will kindly help me.
- Food at the university canteen is delicious, cheap, and has many menus for students to choose.
- Before doing the research, my supervisor gave me many research papers to read. This make me able to see various kind of works and are very useful to me.
- I can see many new things I have never see in my hometown and also got many wonderful experiences from here.
